All About Me

To attain the stature of a respected scholar, educator, researcher, innovator and technological entrepreneur, Ir. Ts. Dr. Anuar Mohamed Kassim have consistently charted achievements that transcend national and international boundaries. With a solid academic foundation in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Ehime University, Japan (2006) under a Malaysia Public Service Department (JPA) scholarship, followed by a Master’s degree in 2010 and a Doctorate in System Innovation Engineering from Tokushima University (2014–2017) sponsored by Japan’s Ministry of Education (MEXT), my career in academic excellence and impactful research has been built at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).

My professional journey began in R&D as a Blu-ray Disc device engineer at Panasonic Communications Co. Ltd. in Japan before transitioning into academia in 2008. Since then, I have served as a Lecturer and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2013 due to exceptional contributions in teaching, research, and service. I later extended my research impact globally as a postdoctoral researcher at Ghent University, Belgium (2017–2018), funded by the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) Belgium, and as a visiting researcher at Tokushima University, Japan under the prestigious JASSO Research Fellowship in 2023, to advance collaborative smart agriculture technologies based on proximal sensors.

Beyond academia, I have held pivotal leadership roles, including R&D Coordinator at UTeM's UTourism Centre (2019) and Deputy Director at the Advanced Manufacturing Center (2021), both under the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Office for Research and Innovation. These positions have allowed me to champion institutional innovation. My recognitions include being a member of the Young Scientists Network – Academy of Sciences Malaysia since 2020, a certified Professional Engineer (PEPC), an ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer, and an a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK since 2022—affirming my contributions to engineering and innovation.

My involvement extends into community development as Vice President of the Parent-Teacher Association for multiple schools since 2018. Academically, I’ve been invited as a keynote and guest speaker representing Malaysia at global platforms, including Northeastern University (China, 2016), Takeda Young Entrepreneurship Award (Japan, 2017), and the Global Proximal Soil Sensing Workshop (Belgium, 2024). Nationally, I have presented at prestigious events such as MyDigital Fair by MDEC, IEEE Emerging Tech Forum, and various ministry-led programs.

To date, I have successfully secured over RM 4.7 million in research funding, with RM 2.6 million as Principal Investigator across 53 grants—comprising international, industrial, national, and university-level grants—from organizations such as Kurita Foundation (Japan), Petronas, MOSTI, KPT, PROTON, and others. My research domains span smart sensing systems, robotics and automation, precision agriculture, wireless sensor networks, and assistive technology.

My scholarly output includes over 140 publications, indexed journals and international proceedings, two authored books on smart cities and sensor technologies, a monograph, a book chapter, teaching modules, and strategic blueprints such as the “Smart Melaka Blueprint 2035.” I hold over 23 intellectual properties, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and industrial designs. My citation indices reflect an H-index of 19 (Google Scholar), 12 (Scopus), and 7 (WOS), with a cumulative impact factor of 11.919.

Innovation exhibitions and competitions have yielded over 100 awards, including gold, silver, bronze, and special accolades at global and national events such as MTE, ITEX, PECIPTA, APICTA, and Geneva International Invention Exhibition. My AI, sensor fusion, and IoT-based innovations for agriculture and assistive systems have earned me global reference status in these fields.

Key commercial successes include:

  • My Second Eye, an assistive navigation device for the visually impaired, commercialized through CSR with Standard Chartered Bank in 2014 and launched by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia.

  • VeSS™ (Vehicle Smart Security System), sold to VG Global PLT in 2017 for use in vehicle and train tracking.

  • Intelligent Fire Alarm System (iFAST) and Intelligent Trash Sorting System, both licensed in 2022, contributing to public safety and environmental sustainability.

The SiAKAP (iFAST) system has generated RM 1.17 million in revenue with installations in MHB Pasir Gudang, certified by BOMBA Malaysia, and received RM 500,000 commercialization funding from Cradle Fund (MOSTI) via the CIP SPRINT program in 2024 and recently award recipient of the Malaysia Commercialization Year 2025 and award recipient for the National Academic Award 2025 in category of Innovation and Commercialization Award 2025.

As founder, CEO, and Managing Director of IngeniousCity Engineering Solutions Sdn Bhd, a university spin-off established in 2022, I have led the transfer of academic innovations to real-world solutions in smart automation, fire safety, precision agriculture, and industrial IoT. Our clientele includes MHB, Petronas, FGV Holdings, JTEKT Automotive, Sarawak Development Corporation, Malakoff Corporation Berhad  and numerous SMEs across Malaysia.

As a technical consultant and subject matter expert, I have contributed to national curriculum design (MOE), smart city planning (MIGHT), flood prediction sensor systems (JPS), and industrial workforce upskilling (Western Digital, BioEconomy Corporation, RISDA).

By seamlessly integrating academic excellence, high-impact research, commercialization, and community contribution, I strive to exemplify the ideal global innovator—bridging knowledge, technology, and societal advancement. This holistic vision, grounded in experience from Japan and Belgium to Malaysia, continues to drive my mission to empower lives and industries worldwide through meaningful innovation.
